Driver's
Assessment and Training Program
Occupational
Therapists evaluate skills and abilities necessary to safely and independently
drive a motor vehicle. This program is designed for, but not limited to, individuals
with dysfunction due to:
- traumatic brain injury
- stroke
- physical disabilities
- dementia
- other neurologic disorders
The evaluation includes
assessment of:
- physical capabilities
- cognitive and perceptual-motor
abilities
- reaction time
- visual acuity (including
night vision)
- decision making skills
- behind the wheel assessment
of driving skills and operation of a motor vehicle under the supervision of
the evaluator in a dual-controlled car.
Following completion of
the evaluation, recommendations will be made to the physician regarding:
- driving ability and safety
- need for adaptive equipment
- need for further behind
the wheel training sessions.
*Note: Physician referral
is required to participate in this program.
