Specialty Drug Programs
Specialty pharmaceuticals are some of the true "wonder drugs" in medicine today. Great progress has been made with injectible drugs.
Specialty therapy management provides custom tailored services for you and your patients:
- 24/7 access to nurses and pharmacists trained complex therapies and health conditions
- Ongoing and proactive counseling
- Reimbursement assistance
Inflammatory Treatment Disease Program
Remicade (infliximab) is different from traditional treatments because it works with the immune system to block TNG-alpha, a protein in the body that is a primary cause of the inflammation that leads to joint destruction. This medication and others like it are used for people who have tried other medication with little success.
These inflammatory conditions include:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Crohn's disease
- Ulcerative colitis
- Ankylosing spondylitis
- Psoriatic arthritis
- Plaque psoriasis
Postmenopausal Osteoporosis and Paget's Disease Treatment Program
Reclast, the first and only once-yearly medicine for postmenopausal osteoporosis and Paget's Disease is offered through St. John's Mercy Home Infusion Therapy.
Reclast, made by Novartis, was approved by the FDA in April 2007 for Paget's Disease and in August 2007 for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
While oral bisphosphonate therapies have to be taken daily, weekly, or monthly, Reclast is take one annualy and the actual infusion process takes around 15 minutes.
Reclast strengthens the bones by increasing bone mass and lowers the chance of fractures. Fracturing a hip is associated with a higher death rate in elders. It's not that seniors die of a fractured hip, but being sidelined with a fractured hip can lead to a downturn in health.
Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Program
One of benefits of Tysabri (natalizumab) multiple sclerosis treatment is you don't have to self inject. Tysabri is administered by IV infusion once every four weeks at an infusion center. Tysabri works to slow worsening of disability that is common in patients with MS and decreases the number of flare-ups (relapses).
